Name: Opuntia basilaris var. brachyclada

Why we love it:  This hardy cacti gets its namesake from the blue finger-like paddles it produces. The blue 'fingers' are accompanied by a lovely pink flower in early summer. This variety is hardy to zone 7 and can spread about 20" overtime. 

Light: This plant prefers full sun.

Water: Allow the plant to dry between watering. Do not overwater. 

Pet Friendly? Opuntia are non-toxic but spines can be painful. This variety also produces a sap that can cause skin irritation.
